August Dahlia Festival with Sarah Raven at Perch Hill Farm
The International Flower Bulb Centre and Sarah Raven are hosting a Dahlia Festival on Saturday 20 August 2011 at Perch Hill Farm, East Sussex. From 9.30am until 4.30pm Sarah Raven is opening her beautiful garden to give keen green-fingered enthusiasts a unique and interactive day of horticulture.
Sarah Raven, who runs a garden and cookery school at Perch Hill Farm and is a
guest presenter on BBC Two Gardeners’ World, will be conducting three hour-long
demonstrations on Dahlias and how they make the perfect cut summer flowering
bulb. The workshops will teach budding gardeners all there is to know about this
versatile and decorative bulb, including:
- Different types of dahlias
- Care and maintenance/conditioning
- How to create beautiful hand-tied bouquets and arrangements
- Question & Answer session
Endless varieties and an enormous assortment of flower shapes and colours mean the dahlia is not only perfect for colourful borders in the garden but also as a statement cut flower for the home too.
As well as the workshops, guests are free to enjoy the beautiful gardens of Perch Hill Farm at their leisure. Visitors can explore the magical gardens, browse in the shop (which will be selling dahlia related merchandise), or enjoy tea, coffee or a light lunch in the glasshouse.
Tickets to the Dahlia Festival cost £5 per person and a seat in the workshop and lunch must be booked in advance. The workshops will take place at the following times:
- 10:00 - 11:00
- 11:30 - 12:30
- 14:30 - 15:30
There will be the opportunity for Q&A at the end of each session.
